Project Overview
This project is a custom brass hex male thread through hole fitting for our client’s miniature fluid transmission instrument assembly. The client needed leak-free threaded connection, smooth inner through hole and consistent batch dimension performance. They previously encountered poor concentricity and thread burr issues from suppliers using separate turning and milling.
Customer Requirements
- Material: C36000 free-cutting brass
- Hex outer diameter:9.1mm, hex head length:13mm
- Thread outer diameter:5.8mm, thread length:12.5mm
- Full through-hole structure, external male thread
- Dimensional tolerance: ±0.02mm
- No sharp burrs on thread and inner hole; natural brass surface finish
- Batch order after prototype validation
Our Solution
We used CNC turn-mill composite machining in one single clamping setup. Turning, hex milling, thread cutting and through-hole drilling are all completed on one machine.
- We reviewed client drawings and offered DFM optimization suggestions for thread chamfer to improve sealing performance.
- Tool path optimization to control brass chip removal and avoid chips stuck inside threads.
- Full inspection after machining: caliper check, thread gauge testing, visual burr inspection.
Project Result
The prototype passed the client’s sealing and dimension test on the first trial. The one-setup machining eliminated concentricity deviation. Zero leak in pressure test.
Mass production batch consistency meets client requirements, scrap rate dropped below 1%.
We continue supporting the client with repeat orders and small design revisions.
